I first discovered Isabella Ward’s story via a Facebook friend posting a link to her page which included the picture below that, for some reason, snagged me like a fishing hook through the heart:

Buzz Buddy!

Like bazillions of other people, myself included, Bella was a big fan of the movie Frozen. I quickly got to work on what was, at that time, the biggest animation project I embarked on!

After several days of animating, it was finally time to render my first Bella toon on an old, incredibly sloooow laptop. I fell asleep on the couch that night with the volume on my laptop all the way up so I would hear the notification when the file was ready. It took 14 HOURS (told you the laptop was slow) for the toon to be good to go as I was woken up by the notification alarm at about 4 in the morning. A few hours later I finally uploaded the first Bella toon below!

HANDS OFF THAT OLAF!

Bella’s battle with Leukemia continued with ups and downs but she and her family kept strong, posted updates and posted more pictures:

…inspiring me to make more toons…

Bella’s fight continued. She looked stronger in every new picture and update:

…and so why not another toon!

This is Bella!

“After 4 bone marrow biopsies, We finally received word that Bella is in complete remission on May 7th, 2014!! That meant she did not need a bone marrow transplant.”Battle For Bella Facebook Page

“Bella took her LAST dose of chemotherapy ever on October 3rd, 2016. It was the best day for all of us in a very long time. We will continue to go to clinic once a month for blood work, to make sure remission status still stands. We pray for continued remission for now and always!!”
